Keep Our Mob Safer – Safer Sex and STIs | Respect QLD

Sometimes sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have no signs or symptoms. This means you could have an STI and not even know.

Some STI symptoms might include:

  • Redness, burning, or swollen genitals
  • Pain or irritation when peeing
  • Bleeding between periods
  • Experiencing an unusual odour and/or a change in discharge
  • Pelvic or lower tummy pain.

Most STIs can be treated with antibiotics.

You cannot get rid of HIV but it is manageable. You can reduce your viral load and keep your immune system healthy.

Visit your doctor or local sexual health clinic to find out if you have an STI.

You can test for STIs by simply peeing in a cup and/or swabbing the throat, vagina, penis, and/or anus. To test for HIV, syphilis, or hepatitis, you will need a blood test.

Stay healthy. Stay deadly!
