Transgender, and Male Study (TaMS) Report 2018 | Respect QLD

Factors influencing transgender and male sex workers’ access to sexual health care, HIV testing and support.

“Stigma as a barrier to good sexual health and wellbeing emerged in both the systematic literature review and in the interviews and focus group. The literature review found that for trans, and male workers there exists multi-dimensional experiences of stigma, related to HIV, MSM status, gender identity, sex work and internalised stigma which compounds barriers. Most interviewed trans and male sex workers concealed their work in some part of their lives due to stigma, including
when accessing health care. Peer educators also identified that trans and male sex worker wellbeing is affected by stigma and discrimination, as well as related issues including limited anonymous health services and defunding of clinical sexual health services.”
