Non-payment of sexual services is a crime | Respect QLD

New laws

New consent laws commenced in Queensland on 23 September, 2024.

The affirmative consent model includes that not paying a sex worker when a sexual service is provided is now considered sexual assault or rape.

What is Non-payment?

Non-payment is when you agree to exchange money or a reward for a sexual service and the sex worker provides the service but:

  • the payment or reward is never given or
  • the payment or reward is cancelled or taken back.

If someone agrees to pay for a sexual service, and does not provide the payment or reward, it means there was no consent and it is sexual assault or rape.
